More new dogs at the shelters this week. More to come...
Isn´t this just very sad. I can´t understand how people can stand in lines and build queues for unborn puppys...

    The white boxer is dead

    by mingan (12/22/2006 - 12:35)

There was nothing else to do. he had to get her last sleep and get killed by a vet. No way we could keep her after the nasty bite she gave her owner after she jut tried to move her aside on the sofa. And the stranget thing was that the owner only had her for a couple of hours before the dog "took over the sofa."

    Snowball

    by mingan (12/19/2006 - 12:30)

I got bad news some days ago. Snowbal had bitten her owner in the hand.

It was like this, the owner just tried carefully to move the dog to the side of the sofa. The big white boxer uddenly bit the owner hand and refused to leave the sofa.

Maybe in her earlier home, he had done the same thing and that couple of owner just left her on the street for someone else to take care of the dog., Take care of the hard ting: to give her her last sleep. Cause you ca´n´t keep a dog that bites without reason.

White boxers are seldom beautiful, but always very nice.

This one is ugly(my opinion), she has blue eyes.

Well, she is a rescue and needs to be saved.

The last story was devestating for my friend. She was exhausted after the shock of feelings that was included in taking those puppies. But she has still continued to do that. Yes, she has a big heart and keeps on taking care of abandoned dogs that needs to be reehomed from the area around Dublin.

    by mingan (12/01/2006 - 10:53)

    This is Poppie.
He was found somewhere in the streets of Dubli. He and his five sisters and brothers.
An animal friend, working for a dog shelter, picked them all up. They were hungry, cold, week.
After some time with nutricious food, warm beds and human company, all the puppies where alright again. Playing, sleeping, playing, sleeping, just like any puppy! Wonderful. Next thing was to find homes for them all. Hmm. Five. the shelter was already too full of abandoned grown up dogs. No place.
A friend of mine got in contact with the shelter. She agreed to take the puppies. After a week the shelter send them by plane and my friend had found home for three of the puppies. Good homes. She had interviewed them, send them pictures and visited the families.
Then  two of the puppies died over night.
After two more days with chock and tears, a third puppy was sick. Very sudden. He could hardly move and my friend took him to the animal hospital togehter with the other one. That one became ill too, all of a sudden.
After two nights with medical care at the vets, both puppies were ok again. Strangest thing. All possible tests were done. Nothing was found. Now, the puppies are grown, about 6 months old. They are healthy and their new familes love them so much. They all know that the puppies were sick once before, and the solution was never cleared, but they stick with their dogs and they live a happy life together today!

    by mingan (11/18/2006 - 23:54)

This is Leon. He was take  care of by an organisation in Asia, Thailand as the big sunami came over the country and flushed thousands of people down to the water.  The panic, the flood, and everything that followed also had an enormous impact on the animals and stray dogs.
Leon was picked from the streets and put in a rescue, own by monks. they jusr fed the dogs and they had a shelter.
Leon was there among many hundreds if dogs. Lately found by a swedish rescue group that paid all kinds of vaccinations , flew him to germany. After four months he got a home. He was a true rescue. from Thailand. He is  a great dog. No problems . Strange, but maybe he thanks his lucky star for being the only one of a hundred to be rescued.
He is helthy and happy, approx. 3 years old.

More dogs to put out as available from the shelter

    by mingan (11/16/2006 - 13:58)

Yesterday 12 tons of dog food arrived to a shelter I help and support in Barcelona, Spain. Read more about and see pictures of the shelter in this blog, further down.

There are so many dogs put to sleep everyday in the world, but this is one of all the shelters that say No Thank You to the government, when they offer money to the shelter if they keep only a certain number of dogs alive for adoption. The shelter I help, I give alot of time. This blog is to spread the word, ADOPT instead of asking a breeder for a puppy. The shelter dogs are wonderful land there is nothing at all that says they are worse pets then any other dog. there are special breed rescues that take care of all our popular breeds as well and there you can find "your breed" if that is important for you. Nothing wrong with that.

Best wishes to you and your dog.

The meaning of the three ladies starting up the shelter, was not to gain money. It was to make clear once and for all, for the people in the city, that to adopt an animal from a dog shelter, is not a bad idea and does not have to be a start of horrible days with a beast,

The opposite. I have a escued little dog. Read my blog about Micky! e is lovely. all other dogs I have met at the rescue center have been truly wonderful and I have helped a lot of them approx. 50 through the years, to get new familes. New lovable homes. With people that cares and appreciates them.

Back to Josephina. She and two other women started the shelter that I hop you have read about in this blog before.

they all got a place to keep the abandoned dogs in their area, northern europa country. Not Italy though, they have a huge problem, as well as all (Yes, all) eastern european countries have with abandoned dogs getting killed every year in traffic, or not just killed, damaged, hurt, and never looked for by a vet. they are as abandoned as they can be., America has a huge problem too. What about all those greyhounds theat will not be trained with nomore, the pits, the broken up -dogs? they all go to shelters and the NON KILL shelters do as good as they can.

    Food

    by mingan (10/28/2006 - 11:26)

Every year I spend a lot of time to save money to buy dog food and let a lorry drive this to animal shelters in Spain. It costs something like 2000 euros to send the lorry, and most of the food have been given to me for free.

This is how it looked last year:

This blog is about all the wonderful dogs that have been resqued from horrible conditions sometimes and from families other times. It differs a lot.
This is Nancy by the way. she is a black and white weird looking thing. Very kind. Very eager to learn new things. Looks at you and seems to be asking "what do you want me to do"?
This is Jesse - an easy dog to be adopted. Very sweet and yellow eyes.

    Hello everybody!

This girls name is Vicky. she was a shelter dog. Unfortunaltely i have only one pic of this girlie... Well, she is a german shephard mix and lovely. She spent up to two years in a huge kennel in a dog shelter in Spain.

After her two first years in the shelter, a family adopted her. They had a cat. An inside cat. He did not like dogs. Vicky lost her eye within the first hour in her new home. Then the family refused to take the costs for the vet and left her to the shelter with the upset eye bleeding and blck liquid coming out of it. The dog did not seem to feel pain, but all the rest of us did just by looking at the poor dog,

Well, of course she was taken to the vets and after that she had only one eye but did still not seem to have anything against cats...Now it will probably take her even more years before the little lady gets a new home. Who would want her?

    I would...

    I hope you would too.

This is Zarah. A true beauty! she was standing in the shelter for a long long time. Probably she was a little too big to be adopted and also very young and lively. she went to a family but is now out for adoption again. Poor girl.

Zita. She is a german shepard. She was abandoned. When she was out on the streets looking for food, she got hit by a car.Half her forleg was damaged and later on it had to amputated. Strange enough she didnt die of the car accident. Someone found her and took her to the vet. The vet didnt charge the shelter.
Later on, Zita got a new family and lives on, with only three legs.

    A Normal day

    by mingan (10/10/2006 - 23:54)

You go there early in the morning. Around 9,30 you have collected a shuffle, a wheel barrow and 40kg dog try food. You walk around the patios. The dogs are excited. They know the routins and they know in what order you will walk from place to place with your equipment. First, the unpleasure to pick up all the poo poo from 80 dogs.. You clean and scrub all the water bowls. In summer time they get easily dirty by the green plants that comes there and grow during the nights and hot days. This is not very good for the dogs to drink.

When it is all clean and every body seems happy, you go for the food bowls and look up so there is no arguing among the crowd. Every dog needs his own bowl. If they dont get that, there is a 100% sure there will be a fight. These dogs are survivals, weather they are tiny tiny or huge huge they know that food is something you dont get very easy and the trick is to keep it when you have it! This said, you must understand that 99% of all shelter dogs have had a home before. They were thrown out by the owners and it is not easy for a former pet to take care of bringing food and live the hard life in the streets among trafic and every thing else that is frightful and dangerous. The dogs that survive are pretty good and tough ones. They are wonderul and they love to be around, be patted, be loved and to come with you.

Their biggest wish is to come to a family again, and stop living in the shelter where they have to be awake and disturbed all day long.

When every body has their food and starts to eat, then you leave the place and start walking with the old wheel barrow to the next haula with next 10 dogs. New poo poo picking with the shuffle (hold your nose). more greetings and giving food.

Afternoon the same procedure, but no food. Only once a day. These dogs are hally. They are well fed and have big areas to run inside.

Grace is the blond dog, Niarca is the white.
A dog, not Grace, killed Niarca. A year ago. She fought for her life. She was bleeding to death during a night. It was so sad. Poor person who found this sweet sweet girl. She had no tail, someone cut it when she was young, so she looked like small white pig.. to much food and too little exercise for this beauty. She had a home waiting but the vaccinations was not clear, so she had to stay. And got killed. This is a huge problem when too big groups of dogs have to live in a sometimes small area.

Some of the dogs in the big run area. The shelter are trying to get more and more big areas, so the dogs can run loose in bigger areas and get the most enery out of their bodies. The tiny dogs are in smaller areas.

You see most tails here, but this is the wagon/car that was given to the shelter at the first days after the fencing had been made. This was first supposed to be for all the cats. They should have a great big fenced area on one of the hills where there are trees and a small pond. This wagon/car was supposed to stand in the middle, so the cats could walk in and out as they pleased. We kept this idea until it was not clean anymore. Then a small house was built in the same spot. This is heated in the winter and the abandoned cats come and go as they want. Some are getting less shy and adoptable. Some are still too shy to be adopted. They just have to take their time, we will not rush them.

This was also in the beginning. Not a good idea, but we could do nothing else cause there were no money. the cats had a shelf each and they had a big windo to look out of. This was also not too cold in the winter.
When a non profit organisation is building a shelter, with no money and a few volunteers, they just need to take it one step at the time. All cats are spayed or neutered and vaccinated. As each dollar comes in, something is being done better or someone is being treated.

One of the shelters dog walking tracks. The view is not bad..

This is Terry. He was a happy fellow guy and I finally found him a home in Sweden. Great family and they loved him from the first sight.

The brownie, Mr Chulin. He was two years old. Two families wanted to adopt  him. Both families outside of Spain, where the shelter was. Chulin was super sweet and deserved the best of homes. He suddently got attaced by a bigger dog and was really badly hurt. chulin was taken to the vet immideately. He was a terrific dog and he had all the necessary vaccins and an ID chip in his neck. He had one more week to wait for the worm test results. he was badly hurt in the attac. And after weeks of recovering, he died. It was a sad day, and I had to call both families and tell the bad news. I never forget this day.
Diva and chantale were adopted to sweden. This is a picture from the following winter. They both enjoyed it! Their two families keep contact and that feels very good and safe.
